Continents

The Earth is divided in 6 continents and 6 oceans. There are America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Oceania and Antarctica. In the image below, the continents are separated by colors.

  • Yellow: North America – it is part of the America Continent
  • Purple: South America – it is part of the America Continent
  • Green: Europe
  • Red: Asia
  • Orange: Africa
  • Pink: Oceania
  • White: Antarctica

Subdivisions

The continents can have subdivisions based on the geography, culture, politics or a specific reason.

  • America: North America, South America, Central America and Caribbean
  • Oceania: Australasia, Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia
  • Africa: Northern Africa, Eastern Africa, Central Africa, Western Africa and Southern Africa
  • Asia: Middle East, South Asia, Central Asia, Southeast Asia, North Asia
  • Antarctica
  • Europe: Central Europe, Eastern Europe, Northern Europe, Southern Europe and Western Europe (There also could be region divisions as Scandinavia, British Isles and more)

Oceans

There are 5 huge oceans between the continents. Some countries have access to two different oceans. For example, it’s possible to see in North America. Canada, Mexico and United States are between the Atlantic and Pacific ocean. There are also artificial divisions. The Panama Canal was built to connect the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean in Panama, Central America.
